Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was died in a car crash close to Mumbai’s financial district, according to Indian authorities.

In a boardroom takeover in 2016, Mistry was fired as chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the $300 billion Tata conglomerate, which produces everything from salt to software. This led to a drawn-out legal dispute, in which the top court of India ultimately ruled in favor of Tata Group.

An Irish businessman of Indian descent named Cyrus Pallonji Mistry became well-known when Ratan Tata chose him to take over Tata Sons in 2012. Due to his involvement with Shapoorji Palonji Group, Tata Sons’ largest shareholder, he was nominated to serve as chairman.
